Halloween

Here is my Piglet. So sweet. Everyone in our neighborhood seemed to dress up to hand-out treats and often felt the need to come to Ellie with their bowl of treats. Needless to say, Ellie was a little confused about why strangely dressed people were walking up to her offering treats from a big bowl, but after a few houses she just went with it. Happy Halloween!

Magic Play Hat

Brian and I call this converted soft Easter basket Ellie's "magic play hat" because niether of us are quite sure of it's function but we know it's often an important piece of play time for Ellie. PS--she puts in on herself and leaves it on for a LONG time.

Lunching with Mommy

Ellie and I shared a romantic lunch on the deck one cool afternoon. We had lots of fun and had lots of giggles!

Best Buddies

You might be wondering how Bella is handling this baby/toddler invading her space. It's a mutual love affair. Bella puts up with the occassional love attack by Ellie (see above) and Ellie unknowingly shares a good portion of her "scraps" with Bella during and after meal time. Brian calls Bella our own personal "hand vac".

Daddy's Shoes

While Ellie continues to dislike diaper changes, she is a big fan of "wearing" and putting on clothes, shoes, even Mommy's hair ties, all by herself!

So Cute!

This is a Zebra that Ellie got for her birthday from Tio Dave. She LOVES the Zebra.

She has begun hugging and rocking her stuffed animals and it's pretty darn cute.

1st Birthday Bliss

Ellie did a fantastic job opening presents, flashing sweet smiles and devouring her cake!

Colorado

Fun pictures from our trip to Colorado.

Colorado

Mom, Dad and Ellie all went on vacation to Colorado for about a week. We played, hiked, splashed in icy cold mountian water and napped in comfy hiking backpacks...well, that was really just Ellie.

Nine Months Old

Ellie is nine months old and being her Mom has taken on a new element of surprise. While she is quickly becoming her own person (her personality is blooming) I am also seeing more and more of myself in her (or vice versa). At school the other day I was thinking to myself, ‘huh, that’s interesting’ and I suddenly caught myself making a face that I could clearly imagine on Ellie’s face when she is playing with a new toy or looking at something she has never seen. That same day I was laughing at a friend’s funny comment and again I caught myself tilting my head back and sounding shockingly similar to Ellie when she laughs hard. I don’t know if she is mimicking me, if these are certain parts of me that are deep inside her DNA or if I have begun picking up on her sweet love of life and sharing her expression of that in these specific ways.
At the same time as all of this, I also feel like the more “tricks” she can do, the farther away she is getting from being that tiny baby bundle almost constantly needing me for love, warmth, food, etc. She can now clap (and sometimes stops playing with her toys to join the people on TV who are clapping), she calls Brian “Daaad” or “Dada” and means it, she knows who Bella is and looks at her when you ask “where is Bella?”, she just started eating Cheerios (one Cheerio at a time with two hands at a time) and she gets angry or frustrated when she can’t move the way she wants or when I leave the room. She gives, “zerberts”, hugs, kisses, and she can now wave to anyone or sometimes just to herself. She dances with music or with the high school drum line that practices in the field across the street from our apartment.
Ellie is old enough now that when I see another Mom or Dad pushing a little baby, an obviously more fresh baby than our big nine-month-old, I get that, ‘ooouuu, I miss that stage’ feeling. I miss her desperately when I have to leave for a “long” time (like more than three or four hours). I love being Ellie’s Mom, but I would love it even more if she slept for more than 1 or 2 hours at a time at night! Brian and I are both sleep deprived and discussing way in which to “fix” Ellie’s sleep problems. Wish us luck. More soon…for now, here is a picture of Ellie on Mother’s Day morning eating her first ever Cheerio, and a few other cute ones.

Soaked

Tio (uncle) Charlie refers to this contraption as Ellie's SUV. Today we went for a walk and got caught in the rain. Bella and I were totally soaked while Ellie remained warm, dry and asleep in her new SUV--otherwise known as a jogging stroller.

Cutest Baby Contest

I entered Ellie in a "Cutest Baby in America" contest. If she is a finalist we win a free trip to New York City, which is where her Tio Chris lives and close to her Tio Dave. These are just a few of the pictures that didn't make the cut and the last picture is the one I chose to send in. Last week I sent out an e-mail to a few family and friends asking whether or not I should enter the "big white bow" picture or the "I just woke up" picture (the first two pictures above). Apparently, Ellie is even cuter than I thought because I was just kidding, thinking that the "I just woke up" look was super funny but about half of the people replied very seriously that they thought the "just woke up" look was the cutest! PS--are those cheeks irresistible or what?!
